Why do we never see cows and sheep evenly mixed?

Everytime we see sheep or cows, they cows are always together and the sheep are always together. Why are cows and sheep never evenly mixed in a herd?

I would not say never evenly mixed. The sheep bite the grass off closer to the ground, so the grass takes a long time to grow tall enough to make cow food. I suppose the cows occasionally step on the sheep accidentally, causing serious injuries to the sheep.

Because the cows mootate and the sheep don't know what the flock is going on.
