Most young animals are cute -- kittens especially. It's an instinct animals and humans have developed towards helpless young animals which makes us want to look after them. We have evolved to respond to their large heads, big eyes and high pitched sounds.
Cats have learned that certain sounds and mannerisms, and allowing us to cuddle them, make us want to look after them as if they were our babies -- and they fully exploit this!
