But anyways, to the point. Gray wolves (Canis lupus) mostly live in Northwestern states bordering Canada and can be found anywhere in Canada. They're not very common here in the lower 48 states. They can be found in some states including Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Utah, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, North & South Dakota, and there has been a pack living in northern California but they most likely went back to where they were.
Mexican gray wolves are mostly in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and there's also been Mexican gray wolves in parts of Texas as well.
Red wolves (Canis rufus) are a different species of wolves and can be found in Southeastern states.
Wolves may vary in size and behavior depending on where they live.
