They fly south where it is warmer in the winter months. They wouldn't be able to survive the winters in some places if they didn't migrate.
What? You've never heard of migration? I'm sure in Canada you can see many interesting birds as they migrate through your land. If I were you, I would learn about birds and look more closely at the birds I see around me.
South because it's warmer down there.... Some who are better adapted stay for the whole year but others go south where they will have more babies and keep the population blooming.
