The other persons view is kind of uneducated. The problem with genetically modified stuff is that we dont know all the effects. So side affects usually show up because of random events in nature. Take a case of Monsanto corn that was genetically alterred to include a gene for insecticides. What happened was insects spread the gene in pollen to nearby milkweed and that plant gained the insecticide gene. This killed a lot of monarch butterfly. The monarch would feed on milkweed but pollinate The corn. Since they pollinate corn the killing of them would severely cut production of corn. So the corn is fine genetically modified but nature did something they didn't plan the event.
