What would be an ideal outdoor pet bird?

Moulting isn't something preventable, if a bird doesn't moult then something is wrong, if you are not going to handle the bird much then it shouldn't me an issue, all birds will mould at minimum 1 time a year for large birds, dusty birds are another matter. for a bird to keep outside, maybe geese or ducks as long as they have a place that they can always retreat to. finches i would only say if you have tropical weather all year, you would need to take them in if it gets below 20'C depending on the type. you can also get captive bred native birds, just make sure no matter what type that they have somewhere where there is cover such as a clean nest box or a small shed

It depends on the climate where you live. If you're in Canada, no, you can't have an outdoor bird for long. If you live in south Florida, you could have a couple of finches/canaries outside most of the time. It sounds like you aren't going to do a lot of interacting with the bird, so expecting it to stay tame is not really realistic. Birds need to be handled often if they are to stay tame.

A finch is a small bird many colors,,and different kinds.....look up on yahoo.com ( finches ) good luck

I'm looking for a pet bird which preferably smaller than a budgie and can be kept outdoors. I don't mind bringing it indoors for a little while, just so long as it's able to stay outdoors almost all the time. I'd like a bird which doesn't molt much and is easily manageable. Please answer below, thank you!
