Could be a Black Rat Snake.

Looks like an ordinary rat snake. It appears to be black but does have markings.

Needs more flash (and cowbell), but given the size and the climbing, I'd start with Black Rat unless a better-lit photo showed differently.

i found this snake about 12 hours ago attempting to climb the outside wall of a restaurant, in northeast texas.
