Sounds a lot like Opiliones, commonly called harvestman.
They are totally harmless, and you can tell them from true spiders because they only have one body segment.

I used to play with these as a kid, but they do have delicate legs.
I was visiting a friend in Hardwick, NJ and I noticed a bunch of what look like very large daddy long legs but not quite all over the trees and crawling around the property. I was wondering if anyone knew what type of bug they might be since my friend gave me a general "I thought they were daddy long legs" response to what they were.
They look like a large red/orange hairy dot (perfectly round) with very very long black skinny legs, but they only had one body piece, about quarter size (unsegmented with no visible eyes or fangs). In fact they kind of looked like those spiders you buy in the Halloween store to freak everyone out. Can anyone help me identify these things? I would love to know what they are.
