What can you feed a wild baby bird?

Are you sure the parents are away, wait another day before you do this...Are the birds full feathered? If they are LEAVE THEM ALONE! They are called fledglings and they stay on the ground or in their nest 1-2 weeks learning how to fly. If they are not yet fully feathered, you can take it in and care for it ONLY if it is a robin or a house sparrrow. Common birds are NOT illegal to keep or care for, only the uncommon, endangered, or rare are protected by the US and canada government. You can feed it soggy cat food, mashed oats, cooked rice, or boiled eggs for protein. YOU DON"T GIVE BABY BIRDS WATER! Baby birds will drown if you put water down their throats. They only drink water when they are adults. Keep it warm in a warm box with a heating pad and in a quiet room. When it is fully feathered you can let it go and it will adapt in the new enviroment and teach itself how to catch food.

Of course you can do all this if yoru parents let you and if your city lets you. But if the birds look like something other then a robin or a house sparrow. You can't keep it and you HAVE to bring it to your local rehabilitation center. If you don't have one close to you, call the nearest one and they will come to your house and take it from you. Good luckl

As a professionally trained wildlife rehabilitation expert, I hope that i can give you the most legitimate advice possible.

It is a myth that human scent will deter or turn the parents from the baby,as birds do not have a sense of smell. but handling a wild bird can cause it great amounts of stress. Each species of bird takes a VERY specific diet in order to properly mature. In addition, nestlings are delicate and can be easily killed or injured by improper diets or feeding techniques!

if the parents have had to travel to search for food, or if you have been hanging near the nest excessively, they may leave the babies alone for up to 24 hours. however, this is normal. do not worry unless babies become covered with flies and/or ants (a sign of infection or injury). If this happens, then relocate them to a safe, dry, warm and aerated box or container, and CONTACT YOUR NEAREST WILDLIFE CENTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

You may use this informative website to locate and contact your nearest wildlife rehabilitation center: http://wildliferehabinfo.org

just in case you were thinking of raising the birds yourself, remember that it is unlawful to attempt to feed or raise a wild bird in the U.S. or Canada without a federal Rehabilitation license, which comes with lots of education and practice. There is a good reason for the rule!

good luck!

You can purchase bird formula at a pet store and feed it to them in a surenge. If the parents don't come back I consider bringing them into your home and find a place where they take in wild birds. The parents might not take the babies back once you touch them though.

There's 3 baby birds in my back yard inside my flower pot the flowers are dried up and the parents haven't came to feed them all day so I'm just worried that they can die so what could I feed them ? That won't do any harm to them
