This is a very harmless garden orb weaver. They often come out at dusk and make those fancy webs, and may even consume the web before hiding out for the day.

One of my favorite spiders and very beneficial. She may die after the first frost, but in the mean time, you can observe her when she comes out to eat moths and flies.

I found this large bodied spider outside my house lurking about. I live in north east UK and would like to know what spider it is
