Yeah leave the chick with her. She will look after him/her, anyways you would need an incubator and to feed it every few hours.
You should lift up the mother and cut/trim all her feathers on her bottom side ( basically over her crop (the bit that gets bigger when she eats) and her stomach ). The type of feathers silkies have often lead to fatalities. The chick will get caught in one of her feathers and start chirping in panic. The mother will get scared and start jumping round the place, often killing any chicks under her. Its a two person job really, id highly advise doing it, it happened my last silkie hen and her (only) two chicks were killed.
I went on a site on this topic but can't remember the name, If I'll remember I will let you know.
I would leave it unless you have a special chick incubator.
ok thanks everyone its been a big tip and help.
our silkie chicken just hatch one out of the shells for now and the rest is still in process. I don't know if i should take the baby away from the mom until the mom is ready to hatch the rest of the eggs so that way i can feed and care the baby for now or should i leave it alone?
