Birds are a lot of work. There needs are high and if not met they will develop behavior problems like screaming or plucking there feathers. The Indian Ringneck will need at least one hour of your attention/interaction and at least 4 hours of out of the cage time.
This can be easy and easily split into parts. Random example: Out of the cage time for 4 hours when you come back from school/work. 30 minutes of attention/interaction in the morning and 30 minutes before bed.
Keep in mind that birds are very noisy. You can train a dog to stop barking on command but you cannot train a bird to stop screaming whenever you want the bird too. They can be very stubborn and independent. They may also scream at things that seem random to like the sound of the dogs playing or whining, the cat meowing for food, TV being to loud.. et cetera
Have you thought about how the bird and dogs/cats will get along? Just some things to think about.
Personally I find that dogs and birds are a lot of work. I bathed my dog daily, probably more then I should have. I walked her out a few times a day and fed her a special diet. Training and playing daily as well. Birds are a lot of work too, they need to be fed fruit and vegetables daily but can be picky. Need LOTS of attention, need lots of mental and physical stimulation(well, dogs too, the needs of a bird can be complex though) Bonding is also very important for a tame bird.
hi, well i have been looking into getting a indian ringneck as i have an empty cage and thought it would make a nice pet, so heres the thing...
Our family, in one house, already have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 fish tanks, 1 snake and soon to be rabbits outisde in a hutch we built. Well i know some people will be screaming and yelling and telling me i already have so many pets and theyre probably being neglected because its impossible to have a lot of pet and not give them the attention they need.
Well my dogs are always with us whether its outside, inside or in our rooms.
Our cats are always around the house and sleep on our beds.
My snake i handle an hour each morning and
my fish are really easy maintenance as i only need to clean them every week or so.
And no soon the rabbits and i was wanting to get the bird.
I know they need atleast 4 hours attention, and get bored but it will be in the house where its busy and someone is always around with the tv or radio on.
But will it become a hassle with me
Please any advise from ringneck owners
Thanx
