Should I pre-masticate what I feed the pigeon?

You do realize that pigeons, like most wild birds can carry illnesses and diseases that will make them ill and kill them., as well as illnesses that can affect you like fowl cholera, erysipelas, listeriosis, and a few others. They also carry parasites that can affect you and any other pets in your home. I suggest caution. Birds can feed themselves at a very young age, they also do not have teeth therefore can not chew peanuts. Many have a crop where they ingest tiny pebbles which are used to grind up their food (which pigeons have). Pigeons also produce a type of "crop milk" in their crop for their chicks. If it is not a chick then it is capable of feeding itself when hungry. If you are the one chewing food for it there's a very high chance you may make it more ill anyway with your own saliva. If you are concerned that much, take it to an avian vet.

yes, its too young for peanuts and food like this. find some worms and cut them on pieces (i know its gross but you must cut it or pigeon will choke itself) :) hope i help ya!

I found a young pigeon on the street and it's sick and probably blind. I took it home and I don't think it's eaten anything I left in the cage. I put some peanuts in front of its mouth but it didn't seem to care. Do you guys think it's too young to eat un-pre-masticated food? Could I pre-masticate some peanuts and flaxseeds etc and give them to him/her? Or any other thoughts?
