2. He's young and probably going through puberty. Think of him as a bird teenager. He's going to be moody, his hormones are going crazy right now. He'll chew your finger, he won't let you approach him. It's what hormonal birds do. Every bird owner goes through this season (or in your case, pretty much the whole time you've had him). But it gets better! Once his hormones stop jumping around and he's an adult bird, you'll find a great companion. It will take time, birds aren't domesticated and naturally don't want to be with humans, but you WILL get there. So keep your bird, stick it out. There are too many birds in rescues already!
Good Luck! :)
Birds poop everywhere. It's what they do. They can't help it. They don't have much of a bladder, or any real control over it.
Playing in his bedding and water is a symptom of boredom. Remember, these are intelligent, social animals, and you've put him in solitary confinement for probably 12 hrs a day. all by himself. He's lonely, and he's bored. This also explains his "moodiness". He's frustrated.
He needs more company and social interaction- either human, or avian. If there isn't a person who can be with him during the day, you might need to get him another conure for companionship.
I have a green cheeked conure and I've had him around 4 months. I bought him from some previous owners and hese only about 1-2 years old, so hese very young.
Theres a few reasons why ive considered it. The first would be the mess he makes.. all day he throws sawdust all over the floor I even pput a mat down and he makes amess of that. He makes a mess of his water evrey day and he sh*ts evreywhere. He will fly to my chair while im at school and **** all over it , **** all over my desk. It dosn't bother me THAT much but it would be nice to have to not deal with it.
The other reason is how.. moody he is.
In the morning I let him out and he will screech. I'll come over to him and he will start to chew my finger, not viciously but not playfully. It's extremley rare for him to just want to come to me, usually I have to chase him around until he actually comes to me. When he does come to me he sits on my shoulder and starts biting my ears and tries to bite my eyes and glasses.
I'm really unsure wether he likes me or not so that would be the only reason I would have of keeping him, if he likes bieng here i'd feel bad about giving him away. His cage is a decent size and he is out literally nearly all day.
