OH my gosh! Keep it wam! A desk lamp won't help, it gives off little or no heat! Also there needs to be humidity! GIve it time, it can take up to a day to hatch. To me it looks like it's not even ready to hatch because the blood hasen't gone back to the chick yet. Please wait until the blood as gone back, the yolk probobly isn't all absorbed yet. Almost lost one of my chicks when it came out too early. Research a lot about helping it hatch. I did this to 2 of my chicks and you'll need tweezers, wet paper towel, and tiny nail scissors or a needle. Carefully chip off the egg shell. Yes you'll need to help it now because the egg skin will get dried and will be hard for your chick to come out. After chipping off the area and around the egg, wait for a bit and keep it wet. If it doesn't come out in about 10 minutes. Start SLOWLY peeling off the egg skin. If it starts bleeding, wrap it with paper towel and leave it until it stops. Then continue tearing it a bit and around the whole egg but don't peel off the whole thing. The skin might be tough so break it with a needle. Wait for a bit and if it still can't get out, it's skin is probobly stuck and dried onto the egg. This is the part where you peel the whole egg skin off slowly and IF the skin is stuck to the chick, dab it with warm water until it comes off. After the whole egg is off, quickly give it back to the mom.
This bird doesnt look ready for hatching yet hope it lives
Let it hatch on its own.
lets hope it will survive!
good luck!
We have had a traumatic time with this little one. This afternoon I found that an egg under my broody had started to hatch, next thing a chicken ran off with the cracked egg and started pecking at it. We got the egg off her and there was minimal blood. We took her inside as didn't feel she was safe. She is now under a desk lamp in the kitchen. She moves around and opens her eyes now and again. Although she is moving she doesn't seem to be breaking through the shell much, not sure if her leg is stopping her. Do you think she needs help or will she come out on her own? She has been in the kitchen for about 3 hours.
