The short answer: if you want a social bird you can cuddle with, don't get a cagemate for him until he's completely handtamed. What will happen is that your current parakeet will bond with the cagemate and may actually get aggressive towards you if you reach into the cage; the birds will defend each other from the "intruder" (you). You said you've only had your birds two weeks. That is not nearly enough time for a parakeet to become completely handtame; it's barely past the time your parakeet needs to realize that his new cage is a safe home.

I have a parakeet and he doesn't like me. I got him about 2 weeks ago and i let him out and feed him and try not to bother him, but he still doesn't let me anywhere near him.

I know parakeets are social, so should i get a 2nd bird for him to be friends with? I don't want him to be lonely, and if he doesn't like me i don't really know what else to do.
