Perfectly healthy-looking dragonfly found dead?

A lot of insects, especially dragonflies and butterflies, have the tendency to just "lay down and die" when they sense that their time has come. It's completely natural. :-)

This is actually how I found so many beautiful and otherwise perfect specimens as a kid.

I'm sorry to hear that it's dead, but I'm glad to hear that it went peacefully, and that you got to see such a beautiful creature. :-)

I hope I helped! :-)

Sometimes they just drop dead.

They only live for a few months, you know.

of course they do. But a lot of times little bugs like that just die after a certain period of time

I found a perfectly healthy-looking dragonfly which was physically unharmed, still soft and warm, but... dead. In fact, it looked like it was in the prime of its life, very colorful, very beautiful. I found it on the ground. It wasn't moving so I picked it up. There were no signs of any injury or disease. What could have happened to it? Heart defect possibly? Do dragonflies even have hearts?
