Fighting for mates is most likely not the case when you have more females than males. When I get a new parakeet, I always put the new one in a small cage next to the other one and see how they act around escorted without territory coming into play. I know this is not an option for you, so I would recommend taking all of your birds out of the cage and bring them to a spot with all doors and windows closed, then let them fly or walk around and see how they act in a new place that doesn't belong to any of them, if they are acting nice, let them get used to each other then put them back in the cage together, if they are still fighting, watch them I carefully to see if they are just pecking a little or actually trying to injure the others. If they are hurting each other separate them immediately, and put the others back in the cage leaving the new one out to see if they can work it out more safely. Keep a close eye oan them through every step of this process
I have 3 parakeets . 2 females and a male . 1 female and the male are 2 years old and they get along fine . But today I added another parakeet to the cage , a 1 year old female . She tends to bother the other birds by pecking them aggressively . Im pretty sure she is a territorial bird & I dont want them fighting to the death . She could also be fighting the female for the male's love . I dont have another cage to separate them and put them side by side . Is this a pecking order , or are they actually fighting ? If they are fighting what can you suggest ? Please help me .
