My Father found a parakeet we presumed either escaped or was abandoned. He was docile enough that my Father was able to take him home. We've never owned a bird before so we had to get all the necessary essentials.
The set up is spacious, I replace the water everyday and the food is changed out rather frequently as well. He has treats now and then and his cage is kept very clean. The room is well lit and it's room temperature, nothing warm, too hot, or too cold.
It has been five days since we've found him and on day three he started doing small chirp sounds, nothing too loud that I'd go and call a chirp. Today however, day five, this morning he decided to chirp rather loud when I appeared to be leaving. I didn't, I just moved over to a couch across the apartment, still in view.
Maybe an hour later he chirps for a bit then stops. I come over and sit with him, put my hand at the very bottom of the cage since I'm still trying to even get him to trust me. He doesn't seem to mind. I got rather close (being mindful not to touch him) before my arm gets tired (I sat there for almost an hour) so I make me way back over to the couch before he chirps again.
I've read online of what this could be but I also understand that the chirps can differ depending on the situation, and the above is my own personal one.
Never owned a bird before and I sometimes think I'm way more paranoid than the bird right now, I just want to make sure that the chirping is expected or if I should worry?
