They won't make a mess. My bird hardly flies that much, you can clip there wings a bit aswell. They usually won't make a mess :)

Clip their wing feathers a bit, if your against that than don`t do it, you could also get a bird flight suit, a petite sized one, budgies are tiny. :)

hi, i'm just wondering about 'free flight time' for when i get my budgies. i really don't want them to be stuck in the cage for their entire life, but my mum is worried about the mess they will make. also, our house is very open plan so the only room i can think of is the spare bathroom (theres no toilet/mirrors in there). does it matter if the bathroom is quite small? i will put some perches/toys in there.
