It just the difference between British English and American English. Whether spellled/spelt grey or gray it it is the same color/colour. The difference in spelling is known as a spelling variant.

One of the more tricky spelling variants is licence/license.

The grey wolf (Canis lupus) is a member of the genus Canis. There are a number of extinct wolves that are included in Canis, and there are also a number of living species in the genus. The golden jackal is Canis aureus, the side-striped jackal is Canis adustus, and the black-backed jackal is Canis mesomelas. The coyote is Canis latrans, and the Ethiopian wolf is Canis simensis. In the United states, the red wolf (Canis rufus) is an endangered species, and there are claims that it may be a hybrid between the grey wolf and the coyote, but others claim that the red wolf is a distinct species, and that because of its small population size, hybridization between coyote and red wolf is more common.

No.

North America has the gray wolf, the tundra wolf, the Mexican wolf and the red wolf. There's also an eastern subspecies of the gray wolf.

The European wolves are different species than the North American wolves.
