You don't see the difference between being alive and feeling agony and terror, and being dead and feeling nothing? If you ever need major surgery, just tough it out without anesthesia and see how that goes. There's the difference.

I saw a video on youtube that showed the horrors of the poultry industry.. Those chickens have a horrible life and even more terrible death...
Because when they're killed for the purpose of eating, its usually a fast death. Eating them alive would just be torture.
One causes unnecessary pain. The other is quick (or, at least, should be).
Keep in mind that it is also cruel to murder the English language ("if they are . . . ate").
