Or if you mean cockatiel then this is my advice:
I have a budgie and barely feed him treats. You shouldn't use food as bonding as then the budgie will associate food with only you and will only eat food that you give him which could potentially lead to death from not eating enough food. Just start weaning him off of the sunflower seeds and give him 'treats' about once every month or so at the most!! :)
Ignoring him won't make him trust you less if you carry on interacting with him be it with him in or outside of the cage.

I have had my cockatiel 3 weeks. He loves to come out of his cage and I feed him sun flower seeds in an attempt to bond. Recently he has started screaming for them. What should I do? If I put him back in his cage he is quiet but screams again when out. It is not nervous behaviour as where ever he is in the room he flies to me and just screams until he gets seeds. I'm worried that ignoring him will make him trust me less. Any advice welcomed
