We adopted an older parakeet that had been owned by an older person who paid no attention him. We had that bird tames within hours of bringing him home. He was the sweetest bird. Just show him plenty of attention, he will tame easily.

My sister got two parakeets about 5 years ago, when they were a couple of months old. After around 3 years the male died, and the girl seemed to recover pretty well. She's been playing/eating/doing normal parakeet things. The problem is that my sister never took the time to tame them, so she's not used to human contact. I finally had her placed in my room and have been taking about an hour or two everyday to get her used to my voice and hand. I've been slowly moving my hand towards her with food and she seems to be getting used to it. Does anyone know a better way to tame her? She's around five now, so I know it might be harder to do, but anything will help.
