How is the flying fish adapted for flight?

hanks for any answers.

The most important physical adaptation of the flying fish is its large pectoral fins.It can swim really fast and then jump out of the water. The flying fish extends its large fins and they act like wings to escape from predators. The flying fish has more adaptations that help it fly. First, its gills can breath in air. It allows it to survive when it's flying. Also, they have a torpedo shaped body and a really strong tail so it can reach enough velocity to to fly

It has gills and lives in salt water like any other fish. Its just has a weird adaptation to jump out of water. I think it has something to do with mating, but I'm kinda stumped on it.

thanks for any answers.
