Peafowl are like all fowls and would be fine on food for chickens, turkeys or game birds. The care is also the same. Chicks the 1st week need heat at their body height at 95 degrees F (35 C) and after 1 full week reduce to 90 F (32.2 C), the third week is at 85 F (29.4 C), the fourth at 80 F (26.6 C) the fifth at 75 F (23.8 C) and the sixth at 70 F (21.1 C) if the room temp is 70 they will not need extra heat but if not room at 70 keep the heat lamp and the temp at 70 until mostly feathered. A 100 watt red heat bulb is good for the heat source. Be sure they have space to get away from the heat. When they are hot they will move away from the heat and when cool will be huddled under the heat. They need water and a chick starter feed 24/7, I prefer the crumble. I start feeding them pellets at two weeks and add more and more as they eat it. I give less and less starter until it is used up. Feed them some grit from the feed store. I always force feed mine 3-5 grits or small stones the size of a rice grain and put them in separate box till all get some. This is to assure me that every chick has grit in the gizzard. I put newspaper in a large cardboard box and hang the heat bulb low enough for the proper temp around the height of their head. The second week I would add wild bird seed mix in a separate feeder. charles@mascaro.us
Peafowl are best fed on Turkey pellets. Peachicks should be fed on Turkey starter also known as Turkey crumbles. Boiled eggs can be given to peachicks as protein. Peafowl are also fed on sunflower seeds, celery leaves are a huge favourite as are bananas. If you intend to keep a peafowl, you need to be living on a property with a lot of space. Build a pen big enough for them to roam or for the male to show his feathers. Provide climbing spaces in the pen for them to roost
I am soon expecting peachicks soon and I haven't the slightest clue how to care for them. P.s. they're a surprise gift I had no choice in the matter, also I wasn't supposed to know. If you could help me figure out how to care for them that would be great! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
