How can i learn my birds age?

Take him to a vet and have them check to see if he's microchipped. If he is, that can give you information about his former owner and at least the date of his 'chipping. The band can mean a lot of different things. I used to raise finches, and the bands I used were color-coded so I could tell what chicks were hatched from what parents. The number 8 could mean he was hatched in 2008, but it could also mean he was the 8th chick from a particular pair the breeder had, or he was hatched from pair #8 if the breeder had lots of pairs etc. Too many possibilities there. Try the microchip idea and see how that goes. Good luck!

First call breeders in your area that raise this kind of bird, or in whatever area this bird is from, many of the breeders know each other and one of them may know what the initials stand for. You can also call bird clubs in the area the bird came from. Hopefully once you find the breeder you can call and get the information your looking for. It's crazy that in this day and age we don't have a national band registery. Good luck.

Trying to find out who the beginning owner is for my orange winged parrot .

its leg band reads WA ,which I assume is the state abbreviation. the rest on the band is RM with a single digit number 8 on it.

I want to find out his age. I have read that most times the band will have 3 letters for the breeder name and 3 numbers showing hatch info. mine is 2 letters for breeder and a single number 8

I just want to know his age
