Handraised parrots alexandrines or conures?

As the other poster stated, Alexandrines like to chew a lot. For my Alexandrines it's a 50/50 chance that they'll chew their perch (annoying) instead of their toys. If you put in a toy that they can't chew up, they don't like it.

I find that the males are more affectionate than the females. My Mum refers to our female as 'the *****' because she's so temperamental. Our male is very gentle.

I also find that Alexandrines don't squawk as much during the day than Sun Conures. They have a louder, deeper squawk, but I find it less irritating on the ears than my Sun Conure. Our male Alexandrine has also been taught to talk a few words, which he'll say in the day if he wants to vocalise.

I think if you have the space you may appreciate having an Alexandrine Parrot. The downsides are that they need a constant supply of toys to chew, and if they have a little 'bite' of you, then it will hurt A LOT more than a Sun Conure bite! Our male has bitten myself and my stepdad and taken flesh. Our Sun Conure barely leaves an indent even if it hurts. Of course, if you take your Alexandrine out in a controlled environment where it won't be startled or handled by strangers, there shouldn't be any biting.

If you live in Australia, you may also consider having a Lorikeet (though you'll need a license). I find their personality to be very similar to the Sun Conure, just with a different diet. Ours was a '1 person bird,' though. She didn't like interacting with others after she became bonded to me, even if someone else fed her while I was away she would try to bite them through her cage door.

Hope this helps.

Alexandrine Parakeet are playful sweet and independent, they like to chew, a lot and can be prone to feather plucking.

Conures are a little crazy in a good way, can be nippy but very loving and cuddly if tame.

Have you thought about the Senegal Parrot? They are intelligent, inquisitive but can be a bit stubborn and jealous, though they are very loyal.

Also, have you thought about Conures other then the Sun Conure? There are many to choose from, each a little different.

Hopeing someone with alot of bird experience and keeping can help out. I wanted to know about alexandrine parrots and what they are like as pets are they affectionate and cuddly as handraised birds.

I had my handraised sun conure for about 6 months and something horrible happened and she died. Its not the same without a bird in the house, sun conures are beautiful in color and really affectionate, though not huge talkers. What are some other options im nearly convinced I should have another sun conure I loved my last one that much but what else are good options. I dont want a cockatiel or budgie or dime a dozen bird something that stands out a bit hence why I had a sunnie.
