Don't know what to do about baby birds?

A lot of times, people "rescue" baby birds that do not need rescuing. If the birds have all their feathers and are able to hop around, they are probably "fledgelings" which means that they have left the nest on purpose because they are old enough. When baby birds get all their feathers in, they leave the nest. This happens BEFORE they can fly. The baby birds live on the ground for about a week, hopping around and learning to fly. They flap onto low branches of bushes and shrubs... That's how they get their wings strong. So if the birds you have are flapping their wings, have all their feathers, and/or seem to be afraid and won't take food from you, you have probably found a nest of fledgelings and should put them back in the pot and if they jump out, thats a good thing and it is time for them to leave the nest. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Right you are , Shelby !!! Leave the birds alone....Mom will take good care of them.

A month or so ago a bird used an outdoor potted plant to nest and lay it's eggs. I think it is a carolina wren. Somebody in my house foolishly moved the plant after I repeatedly told them not to touch because the mother may not come back to the nest. Three baby birds were scattered and I caught them and put them in a box. They can get a few inches off of the ground. They have feathers and some fuzz on their head. I tried to put them back into the potted plant nest but they just hop back out. The mother has not abandoned them and brought them food to the box. I have no idea what to do, if I should keep them in the box or try to contact the local animal shelter or vet.
