Do caterpillars know they're going to be a butterfly?

you would have to ask them. so far, no one has gotten an answer. I doubt that the rudimentary nervous system of a caterpillar is sufficient for that level of awareness, but we cannot possibly know with certainty one way or the other. I am still trying to figure out how I can be aware.

Interesting question. I suppose not.

Because of evolution, its instincts make it naturally do things which enable it to turn into a beautiful winged, colorful creature (climbing on a leaf and wrapping itself and whatever), but it does not consciously get what's gonna happen. It doesn't even have a brain.
