Collection is the most important move she can make beat the birds to the eggs before they peck them and eat them she needs to ck them 2-3 times a day if she knew when her birds laided the eggs would be a great help (mine start at 9 am each morning). The longer eggs sets in a nest the more likely they become broken and the hens eat this .Water is the birds main sourse of survival they need more water than foods if a chicken (s) don't have enough or none they will eat the eggs they lay for the liquid part so they have a wet sourse for the body.If there is NOT enough room in a coop the birds do become stressed and may eat the eggs. Need enough nest areas for all the birds.Or the birds may have a nutritional deficience's, imbalance, less vitamin D or calcium
It is a very hard habit to break so get a cage like this co. sells which allows the eggs to roll out of the cage.
They are lacking calcium badly, please get your chickens oyster shell for calcium and grits for digestion.
My friend has a few hens on their small "farm" as we'll as some roosters and ducks. Her hens have a bad habit of eating their own eggs. I have suggested giving them oyster shells or crushed eggshells so maybe they will satisfy their craving another way. But she always insists that "once a hen eats an egg you can't break them from it". Now she said that a friend told her that feeding their hens pieces of styrofoam will break that habit. I have never heard of this, and I don't know how safe this is for the chicken or if this will make the eggs unsafe for humans to eat. Have you hear of this? Is it safe? Does it work? Are there and other ways to break a chicken from eating an egg?
