Yes, you can have it as a pet, but they're somewhat hard to have.. They need space, or else they won't breed well ( or not at all, if that's your intention). Although cheetahs have usually been pets for rich people for centuries, more and more people are taking cheetahs in as pets nowadays. You don't have to worry about it trying to eat you, they don't usually attack adult-sized humans, and if you get it as a cub, and you have kids, it will get used to them, so it won't attack them either. They live around 8 years in the wild, but they can live around 15 years in captivity. I hope this helps. ^^
depending on where you live, you COULD, but unless you're really rich and can provide a large, lush enclosure for it and fresh meat every day, it's best not to get one. cheetahs are skittish and not as dangerous as lions or tigers, but they could still overpower you and they don't deserve to be treated as house pets
