It is a bumblebee. Bumblebees do not live in pairs...but in colonies.

You can't tell in the picture but it's about 2 inches big, it was HUGE and that's the main reason I was so curious... Never seen anything like it before, looked like a weird cross between a fly and a bee and then enlarged!
Found in a bathroom in UK.
