Personally, I watch for those that the bugs have eaten into -- those I discard, but if the bug's on the outside, then fine -- a bit of washing and it's okay.
However, the bugs do have protein...
I live down south, and I usually buy fresh fruits from a local farm. Well I just picked some from the garden and I was about to wash them, and suddenly there was a small brown maggot/caterpillar looking thing. If I wash the strawberries should I still eat them? I slmost vomited after this too. Not good :/
