Absolutely not.
Chinchillas must have a strict diet of 2 tbsps good quality, green only chinchilla pellets, and all the fresh timothy hay they can eat. They should have filtered water.
They CANNOT have fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts or seeds. There is too much moisture and sugar in produce that can cause diarrhea, diabetes, bloat and death. Nuts and seeds are too high in fat. Chinchillas don't have gallbladders to handle that fat, which goes to the liver. A fatty liver, obviously, can kill them.
They shouldn't have dried fruit because of the concentrated sugar levels, but one once a month is ok.
Healthy treats are plain cheerios, unfrosted shredded wheat, and dried rose hips. They can have small amounts every day.

I read they can eat meat and veggies then someone at the pet store said only hay. I really want one but I want the facts.
