Can a fox mate with a dog?

Can foxes breed with dogs ?

There are many types of foxes, and none that I know of has the same number of chromosomes as the dog (2n=78). For example, the gray fox has 2n=66. The Arctic fox has 2n=50. The difference is just too great. Therefore in all likelihood, foxes won't be able to produce viable hybrids with most dogs. OTOH, the wolf, coyote, African wild dog, the jackals, and the Indian wild dog (Dhole), all have 2n=78 chromsomes, the same number as the domestic dog, so the likelihood of successful hybridization is much higher.

i don't think foxes are close enough to wolves, coyotes, or dogs genetically to interbreed with them, but i think wolves, coyotes, and dogs could breed with each other

dont type wet

No they are not close enough in genetics for a cross to occur.
