NO! Why would you WANT to give him sand? Never give a bird sand. If he truly is that young, he really should be handfeeding. Budgies usually aren't weaned that early, and a bird who is weaned too soon will have emotional issues for the rest of his life. I will give you some options, though. They sell baby bird formula at most pet stores, and a syringe. you must do your homework if you're thinking about handfeeding, and scratch the syringe, use a plastic spoon to feed him, it's much less dangerous. Read everything you can find (google search) on handfeeding and youtube has some excellent how-to vids. If nothing else, at least get the formula and offer it to him in a tiny bowl. See, it may look like he's eating the pellets (you DO have him on pellets, I hope-seed is the most unhealthy thing you can feed a bird as a main staple for his diet). but more than likely, he's just spreading the food around. Birds do not show illness, they hide it until they are knocking on deaths door. That's a FACT. If you can't do any of this, take him back to where you got him from, he's just not ready yet. I also must mention, handfeeding/raising a bird is very dangerous. Even seasoned breeders lose babies all the time. Best of luck to you and your new baby!

No, a three week old budgie isn't weaned yet. If your a breeder you would know not to, and if your not a breeder where did you get a three week old budgie? Are you hand feeding him?? because he can't feed himself yet. If your not hand feeding him he will starve and die. Take him back to the breeder until he's well weaned.
