He really likes to chew, he is in a phase of biting hair. I think he'd like to play in hay. Is it ok if i put some in his box?

What are you feeding him? Don't let him eat the hay. Also,some states require a permit to keep an opossum. I've had a pet opossum so I know quite lot about them. They are omnivores and they easily suffer from calcium deficiency so a varied diet is important.

Some hay wouldn't hurt as long as it can get around OK in the box .

I don't see how it could hurt anything.
