Can American and Brownbanded cockroaches cross breed with each other?

No, they cannot interbreed. They may live together in the same environment, but this will be coincidental only. Without seeing the cockroach, I could only speculate as to the species.

Bear in mind though that males and females of both species look different. This might be your dilemma.

Another thing to think about is the fact that juveniles look different than adults as well. Cockroaches go through several instars before they are mature, and look different in coloration while doing so.

Hope this helps.

Who cares....squish em when you see em!!!

Can American and Brownbanded cockroaches cross breed with each other? The ones I have seen look like a mix of the two. My so cal temperature is absolutely perfect for the required humidity of these pests. Especially it being summer. Some of them have large wings and can fly, this scares me. Their markings look like a hybrid of the two species. Are there sub-species of cockroach? Can they interbreed? I haven't found an answer to these questions in my research. The first step to removing cockroaches is know thy enemy! Please if you have any knowledge on cockroaches please let me know!
