I disagree with Country GIRL. To me, that chick looks like a cornish cross, also known as a commercial broiler. It's too stocky to be a leghorn type breed. I would guess the age to be around 3-4 weeks since there is still so much fuzz (I have 5-6 week old chicks right now and they have almost all of their feathers). I'm not sure about a guess on gender, from that picture I could see an argument for either gender. If it doubles in size in about a week, then it's a cornish cross chick. These commercial meat birds grow at an absolutely astounding rate, they should be about 5-7lbs at two months old and ready to butcher. If it is a cornish cross, you really need to be prepared to eat it or else provide a very strict diet regimine and expect it to live a very short life. Allowed to eat unrestricted, they often succumb to heart disease/failure. Even if you manage the environment and get them to maturity, they still tend to die very early on.
Id say at least 2 months since its getting its primary feathers in and a tail is coming in nicely, Id say its a hen since the crown is very small and their is no wattle and Id say a leghorn type for breed.
Got this little sweetie from a farmers market but I just have no ideas on what type of chick this is, how old and if its a male or female. Help!!!
