Put a few pieces of bread or some seeds in the bottom of the box (count them, so when you check again, you can tell if it has eaten). As for water, you want a shallow bowl (like one of those shallow dip saucer bowls: http://hi.atgimg.com/img/p400/6165/32352... Also leave this in the corner of the box. Cover the bird up and leave it alone. Try to check it once an hour, until you can take it to a vet.
If the bird is stressed, he\she will not eat. What you need to do is find a quiet dark place, and put the bird in a box, do not attempt to feed it, you could easily kill it if you have no experience feeding birds, and the added stress of you trying to force the bird to eat can cause damage. Once the bird is quiet, you will need to call the vet, or rescue in your area and have the bird brought there, so they can properly care for it, until the baby has healed and can be released to the wild

So I was in my backyard and I noticed my dogs had been sniffing about something for a couple of days now. I finally checked today but I put the dogs in the house. As I was moving everything, my Labrador Retriever comes running out to me and jumps over there and snatches up a fledgling dove. I yell at him to drop it and yell at him to go in the house. Then I found a bucket that was nearby and scooped up the bird. I came inside and I noticed both his wing and leg was broken from my dog. So I wrapped his wing and made a splint for his leg. I identified that its a mourning dove. Now before you tell me go to the vet or a wild animal rescue person or place, I cant at the moment and I need to figure out what to feed him! Please just tell me easy stuff to feed him. Thank you!
