Are jumping spiders dangerous?

Jumping spiders are quite harmless and very reluctant to bite. They can if trapped against the skin.

I have handled a great many of these and only bitten once. I actually watched it biting, it got trapped between my fingers trying to catch it. The result was a small red itchy spot for a few hours. Maybe like an ant sting.

No. they are all completely harmless.

You would have felt the spider bite you, it feels like an ant sting.

Salticids (jump spiders) will only bite if squeezed in the hand or trapped against the skin. a likely outcome will be a tiny red spot on

an itchy welt for the rest of the day. (like a mosquito bite)

Sadly, visually IDing some of these requires close examination.

Salticids are diurnal active hunters, and have very good eyesight.

About half way down this page are jump spiders. see if any

closely resemble yours.

They're only dangerous to you if you are a bug or another (usually smaller) spider. I have a cool jumping spider story--years ago I was watching a wolf spider carrying her young on her abdomen as she crawled up one side of a fence in our yard. Just on the other side of that fence was a salticid patrolling around. The wolf spider came up over the other side of the fence almost 2 inches in front of the jumping spider and it leaped on her--the young--hundreds of them--scattered in every direction.

If you press one against the skin or mess with one that's protecting an egg sac then it may bite. However, the bite would mostly smart and wouldn't be worth going to the hospital over. They're not dangerous.

I got bit by one once. It was really big and it did hurt enough that I looked down and kind of freaked out a bit. I was riding my motorcycle and it was on my finger. I flicked it but it didn't hurt nearly as much as a bee sting

They aren't dangerous to humans.

I was just in the kitchen and i saw a spider on the counter so i tried to put a cup over it so i could put it outside. And it jumped onto my arm it was so scary! Ive never seen a jumping spider here before (in the uk) are they dangerous at all and do they bite? Just wondering i hate spiders! Lol
